Cyber threat against Virginia Tech did not originate from area, police say
BLACKSBURG (WSLS 10) --- Virginia Tech Police say the threatening emails received by university affiliates Monday, do not appear to have originated in the region.
The case remains an open investigation.
Police say an email was sent to dozens of email addresses within the campus community that included a threat to campus safety. The department said it takes all such incidents seriously.
Wednesday, police said it does not appear that the location of origin of the threatening emails is within the region and that numerous reports of similar incidents from throughout the United States continue to be communicated to the department.
All of the agencies involved continue to collectively investigate the matter, according to the statement.
The Virginia Tech Police Department, along with state and federal authorities, remain vigilant in their pursuit of determining the individual or individuals responsible, it said.
The campus community was advised to remain aware of its surroundings and to report suspicious persons or activities immediately to the Virginia Tech Police Department.
The university will continue its daily operations as normal.
