Danville Area Humane Society not expecting big financial impact when county funding stops

County will no longer pay Humane Society $3,950 per month

DANVILLE – A meeting is being held to discuss the new Pittsylvania County Animal Shelter.

Once the shelter opens, the county will no longer pay the Danville Area Humane Society $3,950 a month to house animals the county does not have room for.

The new shelter is expected to have enough room.

DAHS executive director Paulette Dean says some cuts will be made but the loss of the money shouldn't have a huge impact because it was only used to care for the animals coming in from the county.

"We will cut back on some hours, some employee hours, simply because we won't have that many animals to take care of," Dean said.

The issue of the county not accepting feral cats at the new shelter is also expected to be addressed at the meeting, which starts at 7 p.m. in Chatham.
