ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. – Multiple embezzlement charges against former Northside High School football coach Burt Torrence have been dropped.
Online court records show that 12 total counts against Torrence have been dropped.
He previously faced four charges of embezzlement of public funds, four charges of embezzlement and four charges of obtaining money under false pretenses.
In mid-April 2016, he stepped down as head coach of the Vikings after 10 seasons. Torrence won a pair of Group 3A state titles and led the Vikings to the playoffs in eight of his 10 seasons as head coach.
This past football season, Torrence served as an assistant coach at Heritage High School in Lynchburg but was later placed on administrative leave after charges
On Tuesday night, Heritage High School football coach Brad Bradley tweeted "Pioneers welcome Coach Torrence back to the Grind tomorrow. Glad to have you back! #TOGETHER"
