Feeding America Southwest Virginia recently received $40,000 from the Walmart Foundation through a grant opportunity with the Walmart Foundation State Giving Program. This award will provide support for the food bank's Mobile Produce Program known as the "Veggie Mobile," including funds for food purchase and operations.

"Without these funds, we wouldn't be able to continue operating the Mobile Produce Program," says Pamela Irvine, president and CEO of Feeding America Southwest Virginia. "That means that many of our neighbors without the access or financial means to purchase fresh produce on their own would miss out entirely. But the Walmart Foundation stepped up to the plate in a big way to help us keep providing fresh, nutritious food and we're so very grateful."

"Walmart and the Walmart Foundation are delighted to support Feeding America Southwest Virginia and what they do in the region to help reduce the impact of hunger," said Brooke Mueller, director of government relations and public affairs for Walmart. "The Veggie Mobile has made a huge difference in the lives of families in Southwest Virginia, so we were wanted to help Feeding America Southwest Virginia continue to provide access to nutritious, healthy food through this important service."

Irvine recently accepted the gift during Walmart's Training Academy Grand Opening Event at the Walmart Supercenter on Valley View Boulevard.
