Officials are now estimating that the fire at Apperson Self Storage caused $1.5 million in damage.

The cause of the fire has been ruled undetermined by the fire marshal. Fires can be classified under four different categories: undetermined, accidental, natural or incendiary.

The Salem Fire Department is finished with the official investigation unless new information comes to light.

An investigation is underway after a fire started at a storage facility in Salem Monday night.

According to police, they got a call about a fire at Apperson Self Storage around 10:15 p.m.

Firefighters arrived at the storage facility on Apperson Drive within three minutes of the 911 call. There was already heavy fire coming from several storage units. It took about 50 firefighters to get the situation under control, as the fire spread rapidly.

The fire damaged more than 60 units and their contents, according to Salem Fire Chief John Prillaman.

No one was hurt.

The Salem Fire Marshal's Office is investigating what may have caused the fire. Officials don't have a damage estimate yet.
