ROANOKE, Va. – The Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport is getting ready to build a walkway canopy that will connect the parking lot to the terminals.
The $1.9 million project will provide all-weather protection for visitors coming and going.

Once the project is complete, the new canopy will serve as a focal point that will lead passengers from the center of the parking lot to the terminals.
"We can't always control the airline experience, but we can control the airport experience. So this is another customer amenity that we want to offer for our passengers coming in here. It will actually tie in very nicely with the building. It's a white canopy type structure that will look very well with the architecture of the terminal buildings,” says Tim Bradshaw, executive director of the Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport.
Construction of the canopy is expected to begin around Labor Day.
