Carroll County man killed in head-on wreck that hurt four

Two adults and two children were hurt in the crash on Wards Gap Road

CARROLL COUNTY, Va. – A Carroll County man was killed in a head-on wreck Sunday morning, according to state police. 

It happened around 10 a.m. on Wards Gap Road in Carroll County, close to Route 901.

State police say a 2006 Ford Ranger was traveling north on Wards Gap Road when the driver lost control of the truck, crossed the center line and struck a 1995 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck head on.

The driver of the Ford, Cana resident Michael A. Wells, died at the scene. He was 56.

Nicholas S. Crotts. 21, of Cana, who was driving the Chevrolet pickup, was taken to Northern Surry Hospital in North Carolina for minor injuries. An adult passenger and two children were also taken to the hospital with minor injuries. 

Everyone involved was wearing a seat belt. 

The crash is under investigation.
