DANVILLE, Va. – Virginia's next governor has marching orders for the marching band at GW High School in Danville.
The band is one of two high school marching bands from across the commonwealth to play in Saturday's inaugural parade.
GW band director Reggie Purvis said someone anonymously submitted the school's name to the inauguration committee for consideration.
Purvis said he has never had this opportunity in his 33 years at GW.
He said he's only had about four weeks to prepare his students, but he is excited to have the opportunity.
"It's a terrific honor to be able to represent our school and our community, especially since we're making an attempt to promote the fact that we have some of the best kids in the Danville public schools right here at GW," Purvis said.
Several college bands from across the state are also playing in the inaugural parade.
Governor-elect Ralph Northam will be sworn in at noon on Saturday.
