Virginia inmate placed in medical coma after attack, sheriff says
Victim's jaw had been broken in at least two places
HENRICO, Va. – A sheriff in a Virginia county says a regional jail inmate has been placed in a medical coma after it's suspected he was beaten by his two cellmates.
Henrico County Sheriff Mike Wade says deputies discovered an injured 42-year-old man around 3 a.m. Sunday at the county's Regional Jail West.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports Wade says the man's jaw had been broken in at least two places and both of his arms were broken from defensive wounds.
Wade says the man's cellmates have been isolated and charges are pending. Sheriff's deputies, Henrico police and the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office are investigating.
