Death of man found in work van in Rockbridge County deemed not suspicious

Authorities also identified victim as Allan Vandevander, 57

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va.UPDATE

Authorities have identified the man that was found dead in a work van in Rockbridge County earlier this week. 

Allan Vandevander, 57, of Crimora, was found dead in the van on Tuesday around 3 a.m. by a coworker. 

Vandevander reportedly contacted his employer, Superior Road Services, after finishing a service call Monday around 5 p.m. A Superior Road Service employee found him dead around 3 a.m. Tuesday in his work van. The employee then contacted the police. 

Authorities say Vandevander's remains have been sent to the medical examiner's office, but that his death is not believed to be suspicious. 

According to police, this incident is still under investigation.

Authorities are continuing to investigate after a man was found dead in a van in Rockbridge County early Tuesday morning. 

Investigators say the man finished a service call around 5 p.m. Monday and hadn't been seen or heard from since. 

A coworker then reportedly found the van with him in the back around 3 a.m. Tuesday. 

Authorities say they are investigating the incident as a suspicious unattended death.

Virginia State Police is investigating after they say a man was found dead in a van early Tuesday morning. 

According to police, the man was found around 4 a.m. 

Investigators are on the scene where the man was found at the US-60 on ramp near mile marker 188 of I-81. They did not have any further details. 

According to the Virginia Department of Transportation, the entrance ramp is partially blocked.
