WWII Day Camp, roundabout work and more news happening today

Here’s a look at some of the stories we’ll be following today as they make headlines across Southwest Virginia:

  • A one-day camp for rising 1st-3rd graders will take place today. While there, children will be able to explore Normandy during this year’s World War II Day Camp. Children can experience the history and culture of northern France at the National D-Day Memorial in Bedford. Daily activities, snacks and a T-shirt are included if you registered. It’s happening from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Portions of the Route 419 and Route 311 intersection in Roanoke County at Hanging Rock will be closed starting at 7 p.m. This is a part of a scheduled roundabout construction. Those detour options include Interstate 81 between exits 140 and 141 and Main Street in Salem. These detours and this project is expected to last four to six weeks. The project also includes paved lanes for bicycles and pedestrian crosswalks. VDOT says the roundabout is expected to open in the fall.
  • The Goodwill Danville Career Center is hosting a Basic Computer Skills class today from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at their Westover Drive location. They will also host a Unique Industries Inc. Job Fair tomorrow from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The public is encouraged to stop by and visit the Career Center, meet staff, and learn about other resources offered.
