DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - A popular Danville park is now closed as it undergoes renovations by Duke Energy.

The energy company is renovating Abreu-Grogan Park free of charge to thank the city for allowing it to use the park as a staging area for about six months during the coal ash spill.

The renovations include a courtesy dock for boaters, a handicap accessible fishing area, and restrooms.

Danville's parks and rec director, Bill Sgrinia, says he's looking forward to it.

"We're pretty excited about this because this really provides a very good upgrade," Sgrinia explained. "This park is a heavily used park. it gets used throughout the spring, summer, and fall."

The park is expected to reopen sometime in May.
