Proposed names for merged Covington, Alleghany County schools narrowed to three

COVINGTON, Va – Officials with the City of Covington say they are down to just three potential names for its new combined middle and high school.

The Joint School Services Committee announced the three finalists are Mountain Ridge, River View and Mountain Valley.

More than 800 people have voted for a new name as Alleghany County Public Schools and Covington City schools prepare to merge in the 2023 school year.

Anyone in the Alleghany Highlands is encouraged to take the poll before it closes on May 4.
