Students, staff return to William Byrd High School after precautionary evacuation

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. – UPDATE

Students and staff are returning to William Byrd High School after a precautionary evacuation.

The school was originally cleared out due to the smell of smoke.

Students and staff are being evacuated from William Byrd High School due to the smell of smoke as a precaution.

Officials said people are being moved to the middle school.

Roanoke County Fire & Rescue crews are responding and officials said that access to campus is currently restricted.
