One person dies in small plane crash in Pittsylvania County

Crash happened just after 2 p.m. Tuesday

PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. – One person died in a plane crash on Tuesday afternoon in Pittsylvania County, according to Virginia State Police.

The Cessna 310R left Danville Regional Airport and crashed near Cardwell Lane shortly after takeoff.

The only person in the plane was the pilot.

The victim’s remains were transported to the Virginia Department of Forensic Science, Western Office for identification.

The NTSB and the FAA are also investigating the crash.

Virginia State Police say there are no survivors after a plane crash in Pittsylvania County Tuesday afternoon.

At about 2:04 p.m., state police said a smaller, non-commercial plane crashed. Police did not disclose the location of the crash nor where it was flying from.

According to authorities, there were no survivors in the crash and they’re working to confirm how many people were on the plane.

The Federal Aviation Administration is also assisting state police in this ongoing investigation.
