Man arrested, charged in connection with shooting in Northeast Roanoke

Happened at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night on Orange Avenue

ROANOKE, Va. - UPDATE - May 31, 2022

A Roanoke man is now in custody and faces several charges in connection to a shooting in Northeast Roanoke, according to the Roanoke Police Department.

The shooting happened Tuesday at about 10:30 p.m. in the 600 block of Orange Avenue NE. According to police, another man, who hasn’t been identified, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the shooting.

Investigators say 33-year-old Christopher A. Withers, who had been identified as a suspect during the investigation, was found on Thursday at a home in Roanoke and was taken into custody without incident.

Withers has been charged with the following in relation to the incident:

  • Malicious wounding
  • Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony
  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon

Police say this remains an ongoing investigation.

A man was hospitalized Tuesday night after a shooting in Northeast Roanoke, according to the Roanoke Police Department.

Authorities say the shooting happened at about 10:30 p.m. in the 600 block of Orange Avenue NE.

Officers arrived at the scene to find a man who had been shot at a business in the area. Police did not disclose the name of the business.

Authorities say the man was transported by Roanoke Fire-EMS to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

At this time, it is unclear what led up to the incident.

We’re told no suspects were located on the scene and no arrests have been made as this is an ongoing investigation.
