Covington man arrested after hours long standoff, police say

COVINGTON, Va. – A man is in jail after an hours long standoff with police in Covington Saturday.

Timothy R. Boyd, 53, barricaded himself inside a home at 827 N. Rockbridge Avenue and refused to cooperate with authorities, police say.

Covington police were attempting to serve several outstanding warrants for probation violations and contempt of court for failure around 10:30 a.m. Saturday when the incident began.

After a two-and-a-half hour standoff Boyd exited the home peacefully and was taken into custody, according to the department. He is being held in the Alleghany Regional Jail and may face additional charges.

“We as a community have had to deal with a lot over the past few weeks. I am proud we can still continue to provide the public safety services our citizens need and deserve during these trying times in our City.” said Chief Christopher Smith.

No other information was released.
