ROANOKE, Va. – Watching the war unfold in Ukraine can make you feel compelled to help in any way possible. There are a number of local organizations here in the Commonwealth that are making it easy for you to show support.
Dana Long from Let’s Party Creatively is hosting two paint party fundraisers. One is on Tuesday, April 5 at 6 p.m. at Twisted Track Brew Pub. The funds from the paint party will go toward Ukraine relief. $10 of each ticket sold will go to the World Food Program for Ukraine.
At the Fundraiser Party, you will be creating a sunflower painting, which is a symbol of peace in Ukraine.
“A lot of people are feeling helpless like I am, I want to help Ukraine,” said Long. “I just really feel bad about the struggles that they are going through and I wanted to do something to help and of course, I do paint parties, so my idea was I’ll do a paint party fundraiser and donate proceeds from that to help the Ukrainian people.”
Tickets for the event include a solid wooden sunflower cutout that you can hang in your home.
If you can’t make the event on Tuesday, there is another fundraiser happening on Thursday at Well Hung Vineyard at 6:30 p.m. $10 of each ticket sold will be shared between the United Nations Children’s Fund and the International Red Cross. Also, 20% of all food and beverage proceeds from Well Hung will be donated to the two organizations.
During the fundraiser, you will be creating a sunflower painting with three different flowers to symbolize Ukraine’s history.
“I drew inspiration from the Ukrainian people when I painted this. This is them drawing strength from their past. This represents them facing with courage what’s going on now. And this bud represents the future for the Ukrainian people,” said Long.
All supplies and instruction are included in the ticket price.
