Man arrested in Roanoke city after a Roanoke County bank robbery

Robbery happened shortly before 1 p.m. Tuesday

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. – One man is in custody after a bank robbery on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Roanoke County Police Department.

Shortly before 1 p.m., an employee at the Pinnacle Bank on Challenger Avenue called to report a robbery.

An officer spotted the suspect vehicle on Orange Avenue and attempted to make a traffic stop; however, police said that the suspect continued onto I-581 South where a pursuit began.

The suspect then exited US 220 near Southern Hills Drive and used side streets to get onto Franklin Road.

Police said that he eventually came to a stop at the end of a nearby residential street in Roanoke City where he exited the vehicle and was taken into custody without incident.

Police said that an undisclosed amount of money was recovered at the scene.

Within 20 minutes, Roanoke County Police had the suspect in custody.

There were no injuries to bank employees, police officers or the suspect.

This incident is still under investigation.
