Virginia State Police identify elderly couple killed in Franklin County crash

The crash happened on Fork Mountain Road, police say

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. – Virginia State Police have identified the elderly couple killed in a crash along Route 220 in Franklin County Thursday.

Police said the crash happened on Fork Mountain Road at about 5:29 p.m.

Wallace Lester Gusler, 90, was driving in a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze and was about to cross Route 220 but failed to yield the right-of-way. The vehicle was then hit by a 2007 Freightliner tractor-trailer that was going north.

Wallace’s wife, 86-year-old Ruby Zelma Gusler, was in the passenger seat at the time of the crash. Both died at the scene, according to VSP.

Authorities say both individuals were wearing their seat belts.

At this time, no charges are pending and this crash remains under investigation.
