Organizers prepare for 17th annual Johnny Casa Run/Walk
Southern Virginia Child Advocacy Center invites the community to participate in the seventeeth annual Johnny CASA 5miler - 5K walk/run. This family focused event offers a choice of a 5 mile run, 3.1 mile run, or 3.1 mile walk race option offering everyone a course they can participate in. The race will be held in uptown Rocky Mount on Saturday, December 17, 2022, with an 9:00 AM start. The funds generated from sponsorships and registration fees support the Southern VA Child Advocacy Center’s services.

"Multiple gunshot wounds" killed Black man shot by Ohio deputy, coroner says
A Black man shot by an Ohio sheriff's deputy died from multiple gunshot wounds in his torso, a coroner said Wednesday, citing preliminary autopsy results. Police have only said that the deputy "shot" Goodson without detailing how many shots were fired. The sheriff's office does not provide officers with body cameras, and the deputy's SWAT vehicle did not have a dash-mounted camera. One witness heard Meade command Goodson to drop his gun, and when he didn't, the deputy shot him, Tobin said. And in September 2007, the sheriff's office prohibited Meade from having contact with inmates but did not disclose what conduct prompted it.cbsnews.com
Arkansas Sheriff Charged with Assaulting Three Individuals in Custody
An indictment was unsealed today charging Anthony Boen, the current sheriff of Franklin County, Arkansas, with federal civil rights offenses. Sheriff Boen, age 49, is charged with three counts of deprivation of rights under color of law, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 242. The indictment alleges that Boen used unreasonable force to punish pretrial detainees on three separate occasions. The indictment further alleges that, on Nov. 21, 2018, Boen pushed a detainee onto the floor and grabbed his hair or beard during an interrogation. The indictment alleges that all three detainees suffered bodily injury as a result of Boens actions.justice.gov
