Man arrested in connection with brother’s death in Franklin County

A man has been arrested in connection with his brother’s death in Franklin County, according to the sheriff’s office.

On March 17, deputies found a body in the area of Power Dam Road, which was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Roanoke for identification and further investigation.

On Wednesday, the medical examiner identified the individual as 21-year-old Charles Arthur Smith Jr., who had been last seen on Feb. 22 and reported missing. Officials have ruled his death a homicide.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office charged and arrested 43-year-old Terry Shawn Hodges, of Rocky Mount, in connection with Smith’s death on Thursday. He is charged with one count of second-degree murder and is being held without bond at the Western Virginia Regional Jail.

The investigation is ongoing.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday that officials had retrieved the body of a deceased individual within the county on Tuesday.

The body of the deceased individual has been transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Roanoke for identification and further investigation.
