Second suspect arrested, charged with first-degree murder in Feb. Roanoke shooting

ROANOKE, Va. – A second suspect has been charged in the murder of a Roanoke man in February, according to Roanoke Police.

Jaytwon Shepherd, 20, of Roanoke has been charged in the murder of Arnez Kirtley.

Authorities say the shooting happened in the 1200 block of Jefferson Street SW at about 11:15 p.m. on Feb. 12. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man inside of a home who had been shot and had critical injuries.

Roanoke Fire-EMS transported the man to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he died from his injuries, according to officers.

On Tuesday, Shepherd was indicted on charges of first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a murder.

The first suspect, 21-year-old Bryson W. Berger, was taken into custody the day after the shooting and charged with second-degree murder.
