BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech has set a new record. For the third straight year, the school’s seen a record-high number of first-year applications: 47,128.
It’s also the smartest applicant pool to date with an average GPA of 4.06.
There’s also a 5% increase in applicants who would be first-generation college students. Plus, there’s a jump in applications from all backgrounds and ethnicities.
Whether it’s computer science, engineering, or agriculture, University Spokesperson Mark Owczarski said this proves students are seeking what Virginia Tech has to offer.
“It’s a reflection of the work that the university has done. It’s a reflection of what the next generation of students are thinking about,” said Owczarski. “Where they want to go and what they want to do. So we’re just really glad to be a part of that solution.
Since 2018, first-year applications have increased by 47%.
