Christiansburg Town Council votes down $500k park sponsorship proposal

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. – Christiansburg Town Council voted unanimously to deny a $500,000 dollar sponsorship to rename Huckleberry Park.

The proposal came from Shelor Motor Mile, hoping to rename the new park “Motor Mile Christiansburg Huckleberry Park.”

However, town council members said they want to keep the primary name “Christiansburg Huckleberry Park.”

One member added that they would need more money to consider the renaming.

“It was a lot of money for him, and for me, it would be a lot of money,” Johana Hicks said. “At the same time, I think that there is a difference between you know sponsoring something then renaming it for something else.”

A town spokesperson said they’ve since reworked certain elements within the sponsorship packet, like lessening the length of time for a sponsorship.
