Virginia Tech athletes volunteer at Feeding Southwest Virginia

Star athletes with the Hokie Way Virginia Tech NIL Initiative made a trip to Salem to volunteer at Feeding Southwest Virginia.

Over 40 volunteers came in to work an assembly line for the senior food box program.

The organization says they feed about 1,800 low-income seniors every month.

“I think as much as we can do to help others and be that platform where people can look up to us and we aren’t just basketball players I think it’s super cool,” Virginia Tech Basketball Player Hunter Cattoor said.

“They’ve stepped up and they’re volunteering just like the other volunteers that we have,” Randy Holden, director of volunteer services said. “They know the importance of them being a part of the community and this is a way for them to give back to the community just like our other volunteers that are with us today.”

Thursday, the athletes and volunteers packed about 2,000 food boxes that will go to seniors in need.
