LYNCHBURG, Va. – One person was hospitalized after two separate structure fires in Lynchburg Monday, according to officials.
Lynchburg Firefighters responded to two separate structure fires in less than two hours Monday afternoon.

Around 1:15 p.m. crews were called to the 4900 block of Boonsboro Road fro a report of a garage on fire and when they arrived they found a structure engulfed in flames and threatening other buildings and vehicles nearby.
According to first responders, one car caught fire and was destroyed and crews spent about a half hour getting the blaze under control, nobody was injured but the building and the vehicle were total losses.
The Fire Marshal’s Office says the cause of the fire was electrical in nature.
Another fire occurred just after 3 p.m. when a large tree fell on power lines in the 1200 block of Dandridge Drive, knocking out power to the area and sparking an electrical fire in the basement of a nearby home.
According to the report, first-arriving crews were able to rescue a handicapped resident from the basement who was transported to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.
The home suffered smoke and fire damage and the restoration officers are working with the family to find temporary housing.
The power outage also created traffic backups near the intersections of Old Forest Road, Dandridge Drive and Ardmore Drive.
