Botetourt man arrested for possessing materials depicting sexual abuse of animal

BOTETOURT CO., Va. – The Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office announced that they have arrested and charged an individual for possession of obscene items, depicting an individual engaged in sexual contact with an animal.

The suspect has been identified as 41-year-old Michael Benson of Fincastle and he was taken into custody on Wednesday following an extensive investigation.

On Dec. 26, 2024, Detectives with the Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Unit were alerted to the incident by a cyber tip. The investigation revealed obscene material depicting unknown individual(s) engaged in sexual contact with an animal, 10 News has learned.

Benson is currently being held in the Botetourt-Craig Regional Jail without bond.
