According to officials, crews responded to a structure fire at Jack’s Quick Snack on Shelton Street, and while en route found flames that were visible through the roof.

Engine 221 arrived on scene to find heavy smoke and fire showing from the roofline, and an aggressive interior attack was initiated. Officials say that due to a smoke explosion and partial roof collapse command made the decision to withdraw personnel for safety.

A defensive attack was then launched using Tower 21 and multiple hand lines. Once the scene was deemed safe, crews reentered the structure and completed overhaul operations.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Jack’s that has been a staple in Gretna for many years,” The Gretna Fire and Rescue team said.
