ROANOKE, Va. – Crews managed to rescue seven occupants from a car that was stuck in dangerously high levels of water during Thursday evening’s record amounts of flooding, Roanoke Fire-EMS said.
Roanoke Fire-EMS said crews were dispatched to the south side of Shaffer’s Crossing around 7:40 p.m. on Thursday after reports of a vehicle being disabled in high flood waters. Crews brought rafts in and were able to rescue seven occupants trapped in the car. No injuries were reported.

Authorities then placed barricades to prevent more vehicles from travelling down the road. The Fire-EMS Department also reminded drivers to stay away from dangerously high water levels when driving, saying “#turnarounddontdrown.”
