Truck Series Driver from Danville returns to Martinsville Speedway

MARTINSVILLE (WSLS 10 SPORTS ) - Throughout the years countless numbers of drivers have taken the trackat Martinsville Speedway, making a name for themselves in the Cup series. But one local native is putting Southwest Virginia on the map in the truck series as well.

Timothy Peters is in his 12th season as a truck series driver, appearing in more than 200 races. Heading into Saturday's race, Danville native had earned 49 top five finishes and 10 wins.

He says no matter where he races, Martinsville will always have a special place in his heart.

"I had my first win in 2009. I had a lot of success starting here before I was able to get into the truck series so this place is very special to me," he said.

Not only was it his first win at Martinsville, but also the first win of his career. Peters cherishes the fact that he was able to get a win at his hometown track.

"Martinsville has a big footprint on the NASCAR circuit just because of the history. With me being from Danville, this is home for me everybody wants to do good at home."

Saturdays race had added meaning as Peters had support from his family at the including his wife Sara who watched from the pit stall.

"It's always exciting for me because I don't get to travel as much anymore since we had kids so it's exciting for me to be here. For the kids our son is excited to see the truck and sit in it and it's just fun to see what daddy does every week," she explained.

Peters finished 5th Saturday, but his family says he's already a winner in their books. Peters has consistently gotten better each year increasing his average start position and is currently 4th in the Camping World Truck Series standings.
