Virginia sees 3,876 new coronavirus cases, now reporting 306,848 statewide

There are now 4,650 deaths from the coronavirus in Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. – As of December 20, Virginia is now reporting 306,848 cases of the coronavirus across the commonwealth since March.

Sunday’s total of 306,848 cases marks an increase from Saturday’s total of 302,972 cases.

Here is the breakdown of the 3,876 new coronavirus cases:

  • 486 new cases in Fairfax County
  • 237 new cases in Prince William County
  • 234 new cases in Virginia Beach
  • 179 new cases in Loudoun County
  • 176 new cases in Henrico County
  • 154 new cases in Arlington County
  • 129 new cases in Richmond
  • 127 new cases in Alexandria
  • 92 new cases in Chesapeake
  • 91 new cases in Hampton
  • 85 new cases in Suffolk
  • 75 new cases in Lynchburg
  • 69 new cases in Porstmouth
  • 62 new cases in Newport News
  • 57 new cases in Roanoke County
  • 55 new cases in Chesterfield County
  • 54 new cases in Rockingham County

  • 2 new cases in Powhatan County, Fairfax, Bath County, Rappahannock County, Highland County, Williamsburg, Surry County, Essex County and Sussex County
  • 1 new case in Charles City County, Emporia and Lancaster County
  • Colonial Heights decreased by one case

As of Sunday, the Virginia Dept. of Health reports there have been 4,646,208 total testing encounters.

The term “testing encounters” includes individuals who have been tested more than once due to their profession, high-risk status or need for a negative result to return to work. The health department started using this metric on May 1. To learn more, click here.
