Lynchburg mother speaks out after 5 alleged MS-13 gang members charged for son's death

Raymond Wood's body was found on Roaring Run Road on March 27

LYNCHBURG, Va. – A Lynchburg mother is speaking out after two new people have been arrested and charged for her son's death. Raymond Wood’s body was found on Roaring Run Road on March 27 after his family reported him missing.

Since then, police have arrested three alleged MS-13 gang members Victor Rodas, Jose Coreas-Ventura and Lisandro Vasquez, who are awaiting trial.

The Bedford County Sheriff's Office announced two more alleged members were arrested. Kevin Soto-Bonilla, 20, was arrested in New York on Sept. 19. He will be extradited back to Bedford in the coming days. Cristian Jose Sanchez-Gomez, 22, was arrested Oct. 5 in Albemarle County, which is the Charlottesville area. He is being held in the Blue Ridge Regional Jail without bond.

Majorie “Marj” Stagno has kept quiet and out of the media since her son’s death in March.

“Being silent, I felt needed to be done for the investigators to get their part done,” Stagno, Raymond Wood's mother, said.

Three alleged MS-13 gang members have been charged for Raymond Wood's death. The Bedford County Sheriff's Office says two of the men arrested were taken into custody within the last month. This now takes it to a total of five people facing charges.

"When I get those phone calls to say, another person has been captured or they have this person. It becomes more and more real even though I know he's not here,” Stagno said.

Raymond's mother only has pictures to scroll through and the final words, "I love you," embedded in her memory. “Those were the last words that he said to me that afternoon,” Stagno said.

She says after high school Raymond wanted to go into the Marines and he was a popular guy with his classmates.

"I've had a lot of his friends reach out to me afterwards and said that, he always had something good to say, positive to say. I knew I did my part as a mother raising my child,” Stagno said.

The investigation for Raymond’s case continues, although the Bedford County Sheriff's Office says they've concluded their search for anyone directly involved.

As for looking ahead, Raymond's mother says thank you to all involved with the case.

"We are heading in the path of justice for Raymond and I will leave that for what they decide,” Stagno said.

The family has set up a GoFundMe page and Facebook page in honor of Raymond Wood.
