LYNCHBURG, Va – A new and unique way of recycling could be coming to the Hill City. Leaders said an industrial food waste de-watering facility could be constructed on Murry Place near Odd Fellows Road, which is the industrial area of the city.
According to city planning officials, the recycling facility will take palettes of items, like soda, that were never distributed or may have expired and de-package them.
Then, the liquid that comes out of it will be treated and de-watered through a mechanical process that separates liquids from solids.
“The solids would then be trucked back to (the) Royal Oak Farm composting facility in Bedford County and the liquid waste will be discharged in the city's sewer system,” Rachel Frischeisen, planner for Lynchburg, said.
City council will vote on the proposal Jan. 9.
