Salem VA to offer drive-thru flu clinic for veterans

Veterans have to be enrolled in the VA system to receive the free vaccine

SALEM, Va. – Veterans can receive free flu shots in a drive-thru clinic at the Salem Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

The drive-thru will be open on weekdays from October 2 to October 31, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Nurses will give the vaccines in front of Building 1 of the VA, which is on Roanoke Boulevard in Salem. Veterans who do not want to use the drive-thru can also receive a flu shot in their primary care clinic during a scheduled appointment.

Veterans have to be enrolled in the VA system to receive the vaccine. Those with VA ID cards should bring them.

Salem VA employees can also use the drive-thru but they must show their employee badges.

The community-based outpatient clinics in Danville, Lynchburg, Wytheville, Staunton and Tazewell will also offer vaccines in their clinic locations during the same dates. Shots are available in those locations from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
