Martinsville Speedway prepares for historic race weekend

‘There’s nothing that matches the enthusiasm, the pageantry and everything that goes into turning these lights on’

RIDGEWAY, Va. – It’s race week at the Martinsville Speedway with NASCAR rolling into town to put on a historic show this weekend.

Crews were outputting the finishing touches on paint around the track on Monday before the haulers move in later this week. It’s a momentous year for the “Paperclip” as it celebrates its 75th year in operation.

Track president Clay Campbell says it’s phenomenal to reach such a milestone and having three races under the lights for the first time ever has been a long time coming.

“There’s nothing that matches the enthusiasm, the pageantry and everything that goes into turning these lights on and running that Cup race Saturday night, as well as Xfniity Friday night,” Campbell said. “Dale Jr. running in that race, Dash 4 Cash race $100,000 for somebody will be phenomenal, and back to the trucks that always put on a good show here.”

The campgrounds have already sold out for the weekend. We’ll have more on the Martinsville Speedway and NASCAR leading up to the jam-packed weekend of racing.
