A temporary detour and parking relocation along the Andy Layne Trail are raising safety concerns for hikers and drivers near the Appalachian Trail, but trail officials say a long-term relocation project is expected to improve access and safety once completed.

Due to reported aggressive bear activity in Tennessee, certain campsites at the Appalachian Trail will be closed.

Crews said the hiker fell about 200 feet off the mountain while hiking with a group. While a helicopter rescued the hiker, a few crews stepped through the snow to treat them on the ground.
