Daniel Berger has the final say and wins at Pebble Beach

Daniel Berger reacts after making an eagle putt on the 18th green of the Pebble Beach Golf Links during the final round of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am golf tournament Sunday, Feb. 14, 2021, in Pebble Beach, Calif. Berger won the tournament. (AP Photo/Eric Risberg)PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – For all the stunning views at Pebble Beach that can be so soothing, Daniel Berger couldn't escape the tension when he arrived at the final hole Sunday in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Off to his right was out-of-bounds markers below a row of hedges, where Berger hit his drive on Saturday that led to double bogey. Berger capped it off with an eagle putt for a 7-under 65 and a two-shot victory over Maverick McNealy. He started with a two-shot lead and was three shots behind after six holes, wasting the scoring stretch at Pebble Beach.

Late eagle from the fairway stakes Spieth to lead at Pebble

He shot 1-under 71 as he goes for a second victory at Pebble Beach in the last five years. A pedestrian round that included bogeys on two of the par 5s left Spieth two shots out of the lead with three holes to play. Spieth didn’t have to contend with what he predicted to be a “mean” day at Pebble Beach. The raging wind was more of a stiff breeze along the ocean holes that Pebble gets all the time. He made bogey on the easiest hole at Pebble Beach from the middle of the fairway on the par-5 second hole, coming up well short of the green, pitching short of the putting surface and missing a par putt from 5 feet.

Spieth takes another step with a 67 to lead at Pebble Beach

Whether it's good golf or good breaks, it's making him feel a lot better about his game at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. He shot a 5-under 67 at Spyglass Hill on Friday for a one-shot lead over Daniel Berger going into the weekend. Berger shot a 66 at Pebble Beach by going 2-3-2 along the ocean on a day filled will sunshine and a Pacific breeze. Mickelson hit two shots in the ocean on the 18th at Pebble Beach and took a quadruple-bogey 9 for an 80. “It’s just when it happens, it’s obviously really nice.”The cut was at 1-under 143 after 36 holes on Pebble Beach and Spyglass.

Nick Taylor gets a break and a birdie and leads Sony Open

Nick Taylor hits from the eighth fairway during the second round of the Sony Open golf tournament Friday, Jan. 15, 2021, at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu. Taylor gave himself at least some separation with a gap wedge to 6 feet for birdie on No. 8, and then even his worst swing of the day turned into a birdie on the par-5 ninth. “I think it's probably harder out here to make double (bogey) and there's a lot of birdie opportunities,” Taylor said. Cink already won the season-opener in the Safeway Open in September, his first victory since the 2009 British Open at Turnberry.

That's more than the total ranking points Tiger Woods earned (19.08) in the nine tournaments he played.

US Open sees red in Round 1. Will Winged Foot strike back?

Not coincidentally, the big question heading into Round 1 was whether the century-old course would prove too tough even for the world’s best golfers. In five previous Opens played at Winged Foot, only two players have ever finished the tournament under par. We’ll find out whether, and how much, the USGA feels stung by the assault on par beginning with Round 2. And there’s plenty of spots left on those fast greens where a clown’s mouth would actually be a welcome distraction. “They certainly were looking to have the lowest scores (in the first round), given the conditions that we have as well.

From the fairway, Johnson builds ... lead at East

Dustin Johnson hits from the fairway on the 8th hole during the third round of the Tour Championship golf tournament at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Sunday, Sept. 6, 2020. It led to a five-shot lead over Justin Thomas and Xander Schauffele going into the Labor Day finish at East Lake. The FedEx Cup has been on Johnson's mind ever since he squandered a great chance to win it in 2016. He went into the final round that year tied for the lead and then couldn't find a fairway, closing with a 73. He still had a chance to win the FedEx Cup when it was based on points.

Koepka, in the group behind Thomas, tried to answer 42 yards from the hole.

(AP Photo/Andy Clayton- King)BLAINE, Minn. – Michael Thompson and Richy Werenski maintained their momentum at the 3M Open. Thompson and Werenski topped the leaderboard at 12 under, Finau and Talor Gooch climbed within a stroke and stars Brooks Koepka and Tommy Fleetwood struggled again Friday at the TPC Twin Cities. Thompson, who played in the first group of the day with a 6:50 a.m., moved even with Werenski on the 194-yard 17th hole. “The big thing is just try not to overpower the golf course, stay within myself, make good, comfortable swings,” Thompson said.

Mickelson added to field in a US Open without qualifying

Mickelson is now exempt to return to Winged Foot for the U.S. Open in September. The COVID-19 pandemic that forced the U.S. Open to move from June also cost the championship its identity of being open to all. Open qualifying wasnt possible for two stages at nearly 120 courses across the country and into Canada, England and Japan. With his five majors and Hall of Fame career not to mention his legacy of silver medals in the U.S. Open Mickelson likely would have received at least one exemption. The rest of the field is similar to what the British Open has done with its International Finals Qualifying for the PGA Tour.

Simpson celebrates a Father's Day win at Harbour Town

The U.S. Open has been scheduled to end on Father's Day every year since 1976, but it was moved to September this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The RBC Heritage filled the spot on the schedule and Simpson, now a father of five, became a winner for the second time this year with a record score at Harbour Town. It was a crazy day, Simpson said. It was a tough runner-up finish for Ancer, trying to become the fifth straight winner of the RBC Heritage to capture his first PGA Tour victory at Harbour Town. Until the first tournament back at Colonial in Fort Worth, Texas, the area around Harbour Town was crowded with the start of summer vacation.

4-way tie for lead at Heritage as another wild finish looms

Tyrrell Hatton of England had one of six rounds at 63 as he tries to win back-to-back starts for the second time in his year. Abraham Ancer rode his strong iron play to a 65, while Ryan Palmer had a 66 to join the lead at 15-under 198. A week ago at the Charles Schwab Challenge, 14 players were separated by three shots going into the final round. The six rounds at 63 marked the third time since October that at least six players shot 63 in a round. There were seven such rounds at the RSM Classic in November, about 80 miles down the Atlantic coast at Sea Island.

Berger a winner at Colonial, and PGA Tour feels like it, too

The tour administered 487 tests for the new coronavirus at Colonial, and the results on all of them came back negative. Berger made a 10-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole and heard the deafening silence of a big moment with no spectators allowed at Colonial. He got into a playoff when Collin Morikawa missed a 6-foot birdie putt for the win and Xander Schauffele missed his try from 25 feet. Justin Rose had an 18-foot birdie putt on the 18th that looked good all the way until it wasn't. He finished one behind along with Bryson DeChambeau and Jason Kokrak, who also missed birdie chances on the last hole.

A safe return for golf as Berger wins Colonial in a playoff

Daniel Berger poses with the championship trophy after winning the Charles Schwab Challenge golf tournament after a playoff round at the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, Sunday, June 14, 2020. Berger saved par from behind the 17th green on the first playoff hole and won when Collin Morikawa missed a 3-foot par putt. Berger closed with a 4-under 66, his 28th consecutive round at par or better dating to Oct. 11 at the Houston Open. And then his 3-foot par putt on the 17th hole dipped in one side of the hole and spun out of the other. His 25-foot birdie putt to join the playoff came up just short and he shot 69.
