Auburn boys clinch Class 1 state title, second in school history
RINER, Va. โ Last Thursday, the Auburn boys basketball team was patiently awaiting their 8 p.m. tip against Matthews in the Class 1 state basketball championship. โOnce we saw the NCAA cancelled all their tournaments, we were like, oh no this isnโt good,โ junior Reed Underwood said. โThen when we saw the VHSL cancelled all theirs, we realized, ours was probably next.โAs they watched the Class 2 championship unfold, so did their fate. Auburn would be declared the Class 1 co-champions, and not play a game. โThen we were just like, weโre state champs, co-champs.โAnd as they rolled into the parking lot of the school that night, the Riner community was waiting.
Auburnโs Ethan Millirons leading Eagles into 2020
RINER, Va. โ Star point guard Ethan Millirons is the ultimate team player for Auburn High School. โI play as hard as I can, all I care about is winning the ball game. I needed to get stronger, I needed to improve my defense, improve shooting and everything,โ he said. โHeโs averaging 22 points a game, almost 5 assists a game, with a lot of attention thrown his way every game. We look to him to do a little bit of everything for us.โThe Eagles are currently 8-6 overall and 3-1 in the Mountain Empire District under head coach Terry Millirons, who happens to be the husband of volleyball coach Sherry Millirons.
