The VHSL and Roanoke County School Board have been named in a lawsuit by Daniel and Stacie Palmer that alleges that their son Samuel is being barred from participating in track and field meets due to him being homeschooled.

The family of Samuel Palmer believes he should be able to participate in sports for Northside High School, even though he is homeschooled. The family chose homeschooling because of religious conviction, but believes VHSL rules discriminate against them and other homeschooled students.
