Or Chloé Zhao, making history as the first woman of Asian descent to win best director (and the first woman since 1984.) AdOf course, there were the usual confounding results and baffling snubs, compounded here by some epic Zoom fails. ZHAO MAKES HISTORYWhen Zhao won best director for her haunting and elegant “Nomadland,” she was the first woman of Asian descent to win that award. It was updated on March 3, 2021, to correct the nationality of director of “Nomadland.” Chloe Zhao is Chinese, not Asian American.

Bong Joon Ho’s masterfully devious class satire took Hollywood’s top prize at the Oscars on Sunday night, along with awards for best director, best international film and best screenplay. In winning best adapted screenplay for his Nazi satire “Jojo Rabbit,” the New Zealand filmmaker Taika Waititi became the first indigenous director ever to win an Oscar. “Joker” composer Hildur Gudnadottir became only the third woman to ever win best original score. After a year in which women made significant gains behind the camera, no female directors were nominated for best director.
Netflix had the most Golden Globe nominations, but AT&T brought home the most trophies

The streaming service garnered 17 nominations, the most of any single studio, including four best picture nominations, but it only garnered two trophies during the Sunday ceremony. Additionally, HBO's "Chernobyl" won the prize for best limited series / TV movie and Stellan Skarsgard won for best performance in a limited series for his portrayal of Boris Shcherbina, the Council of Ministers' deputy chairman during the Chernobyl disaster. Russell Crowe won best actor in a limited series for his role in "The Loudest Voice," Taron Egerton won best actor in a musical or comedy for his turn as Elton John in "Rocketman" and "I'm Gonna Love Me Again" from "Rocketman" won best original song. "Marriage Story," "The Two Popes," and "The Irishman" were all nominated in the best picture drama category and "Dolemite is My Name" nabbed a best picture nomination for the comedy or musical category.cnbc.com
'Big Little Lies' may not be nominated for Emmys this year
The first season, which premiered in 2017, won eight Emmy awards, including best limited series. But despite this pedigree, don't expect to hear this show's name when the 2019 Emmy Awards are announced Tuesday. Before fans prepare to hurl ice cream cones at Emmy voters, they should note that there's a reason for this. The second season of "Big Little Lies" premiered June 9. "Big Little Lies" is also by no means the only prestige program that's been kicked to the 2020 dockets.
