For almost as long as the 50 years of history celebrated on Sunday's Grammy awards, rap artists have had an uncomfortable relationship with the music's biggest institution.

The rumors are true: Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, Jennifer Lopez, Patti Smith, Björk, and Debbie Harry have NEVER won Grammys.

Dr. Dre, Missy Elliott and Lil Wayne were honored at the Recording Academy's second annual Black Music Collective event during an official pre-Grammy event.

Over half of this year's potential inductees are nominated for the first time, including Elliott, Lauper, Crow, Willie Nelson and more.

Missy Elliott, Willie Nelson, Kate Bush, Iron Maiden, Cyndi Lauper, Soundgarden, Sheryl Crow and the late George Michael are nominees for 2023 induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, a list that includes a mix of country, soul, hip-hop, metal, pop, rap-rock and grunge.

The artist headlines the Black Cat on Friday.

Snoop Dogg, Gloria Estefan, Sade, Jeff Lynne, Glen Ballard, Teddy Riley and Liz Rose have been chosen to join the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

The MTV Video Music Awards later this month will have not one emcee but three, with rap stars LL Cool J, Nicki Minaj and Jack Harlow all set to anchor the ceremony.

Nicki Minaj will receive the Video Vanguard Award at the MTV Awards later this month, joining such previous winning music luminaries as Madonna, Janet Jackson, LL Cool J, Jennifer Lopez and Missy Elliott.

Megan Thee Stallion, who won three honors, also made history and became the first female rapper to win best rap song. She's also the fifth rap-based act to win best new artist.
