Centra Lynchburg General Hospital officially broke ground Thursday on a $140 million hospital tower.  It marks the largest healthcare construction project in Centra Health’s nearly 40-year history. The six-story tower expansion is a part of Centra’s long-term Modernization Plan.

Centra Health in Lynchburg is seeing a change in leadership.

All 7,600 employees within the Centra health system will be required to get vaccinated.

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The president and CEO of Centra has resigned. Health leaders say Doctor Andy Mueller submitted his resignation on Jan. 26th and will become CEO of MaineHealth in Portland. Amy Ray, chairman of Centra’s Board of Directors, praised Mueller for what he’s accomplished in the amount of time. Lynchburg attorney Richard Tugman will be the interim president and CEO. He’s been with Centra since 2016 and currently serves as president and CEO of Piedmont Community Health Plan.

On Tuesday, Centra President and CEO Dr. Andy Mueller submitted his resignation to the Centra Board of Directors. He’s leaving Centra to become the CEO for MaineHealth, based in Portland, Maine. Mueller’s leadership has been critical in building a talented leadership team, navigating the current pandemic, and positioning Centra for the future,” said Centra Board of Directors Chairman Amy Ray in a news release. We are disheartened in his decision but wish him all success in his new position.”As Centra searches for a new CEO, Richard Tugman will serve as interim president and CEO. Tugman, an attorney by profession, has been with Centra since 2016 and is currently the president and CEO of Piedmont Community Health Plan (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Centra).
