ROANOKE, Va. – You’ve made it to the weekend! It’s dry as we’re getting the day started, but that will change later in the day as our next storm system approaches.
We expect showers to begin around or shortly after lunchtime in the New River Valley. Look for your town’s high temperature for the day to occur before the rain begins.

Our in-house (RPM) model shows that the entire area will be dealing with damp weather by 3 or 4 p.m. We’ll also see a dip in the temperatures after the rain begins.
The consistent rain continues through the evening before becoming more scattered overnight.
We expect about a half an inch of rain for most locations, with some isolated higher amounts possible. This shouldn’t be enough for any flooding concerns to develop. Also, the risk for severe storms stays well south of us.
We’ll be on the backside of the storm system on Sunday. That means drier conditions (only a 20 percent chance of rain) and more sunshine, but also we’ll be dealing with some northwest breezes.
Temperatures will rise to warmer levels by Sunday afternoon as we’re forecasting highs from the low 60s in the New River Valley to the low 70s in Lynchburg and Southside.
The warm-up continues into the new work week as an upper-level ridge sets up over the eastern half of the country. Look for highs well into the 70s Monday, then 80s Tuesday and Wednesday!
The warmer air will also be accompanied by sunshine and mostly dry conditions. Long-range models are hinting at more unsettled weather later in the work week.
