Winter is biting back this weekend, but it appears temperatures will recover during the work week

ROANOKE, Va. – We wrapped up the work week on a nice note with sunshine and highs in the 60s! The weather will be MUCH different this weekend, thanks to a strong cold front.

Precipitation is moving across the region as I type this article. It started as rain, but is rapidly transitioning to snow as temperatures drop.

Just because we’ll see flakes fly, doesn’t mean there will be high impacts from the snow. In fact, I think most of us get minor accumulations if any.

As I mentioned, temperatures are dropping as the front moves across the area. That trend will continue throughout the day.

The wind won’t help it feel any warmer outside! A wind advisory has been issued for many of us today.

Look for northwest winds sustained at 15 to 30 miles per hour, gusting to 35 to 50 miles per hour. I think we’ll feel the strongest wind during the afternoon.

The wind backs off some as skies clear out overnight. That will allow temperatures to plummet! Winter is biting back with lows in the teens Sunday morning.

Temperatures recover to the 40s by Sunday afternoon under mostly sunny skies. Certainly a wintry weekend!

If you’re looking for spring-like air to return, you’ll be in luck during the work week. It appears we’ll have many days with highs in the 60s.
