Early morning patches of fog clear in time for additional warmth, spotty storms Monday

We’ll turn hotter with isolated storm chances each day the rest of the week

High temperature forecast for Monday, 7/24/2023

ROANOKE, Va. – Areas of fog are developing early Monday morning due to stagnant air and Sunday evening’s storms. A Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. Monday for the New River Valley and Highlands.

As our system continues to scrape the eastern half of our area, we’ll see the chance for very spotty downpours Monday afternoon. Otherwise, expect high temperatures a few degrees higher than Sunday.

Fast-forward to Tuesday, and we’ll track a separate disturbance coming in from the west. This will trigger scattered showers and thunderstorms near and east of the Roanoke Valley during the afternoon and early evening hours.

Scattered afternoon storms develop Tuesday

Aside from that, high temperatures reach the 80s and lower 90s Tuesday.

That sort of heat is something we’ll need to get used to in the days that follow. The same area of high pressure that’s baked parts of the Southwest U.S. will grow a bit.

High pressure continues to produce extreme heat in the Western U.S.

This will lead to more heat in our area, though it thankfully won’t be anywhere near as brutal as it’s been in places like Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Arizona.

High heat coming our way mid to late week

Expect highs of about 91 to 96° in the Roanoke Valley, Lynchburg Area and Southside between Wednesday and Saturday afternoons. Storms will mostly be isolated during that time frame.
