Deaf singer wows 'America's Got Talent' judges, receives golden buzzer

Harvey lost all hearing at the age of 18

LOS ANGELES – An inspiring story came out of Tuesday night's auditions on "America's Got Talent."

Mandy Harvey, 29, of St. Cloud, Florida, took the stage to sing, despite having lost all her hearing at the age of 18 from a connective tissue disorder.

Harvey interacted with the judges with the help of a sign language interpreter.

Then, she proceeded to wow them, as well as the audience, by playing the ukulele and singing her own composition -- a song called "Try."

Within a few seconds of finishing, Harvey earned the "golden buzzer" from judge Simon Cowell, which advances Harvey directly to the "live" semi-final of the show beginning in August.

Harvey joins 12-year-old ventriloquist Darci Lynne, who received "the golden buzzer" last week from judge Mel B.

The auditions for "America's Got Talent" continue next Tuesday night on WSLS 10.
