CHRISTIANSBURG (WSLS) - Plans are in the works to create a public farmers market in downtown Christiansburg. Â
Last week, a newly formed committee met together for the first time to begin discussing this possibility.Â

The vision is to start a small market on Hickok Street downtown, then expand it with time to include more vendors and even entertainment.
Although ideas are still in the preliminary stages and must receive town council approval, leaders say the time is right to make this a reality for the residents. Â
Mayor Mike Barber says many Christiansburg residents travel to other towns and counties for farmers markets, so there needs to be something available to keep them in town.Â
Although a date has not yet been set in stone, the next committee meeting will likely be the first week of December, and it will be open to the public.
