BLACKSBURG (WSLS 10) - A group of Virginia Tech students learned an important lessons about success outside of college. 

On Wednesday, the organization WINGS which stands for Women Inspiring the Next Generation to Soar hosted an event. The group helps to connect female STEM students with professional resources.

Nancy Hawley, Senior Vice President of Operations for R.J. Reynolds tobacco company was the guest speaker. The Virginia Tech alum discussed the need for more females in the engineering field. Hawley emphasized the importance of hardwork, passion and networking.

Participants said the transition from college to the workforce can be a challenge and it's important to meet people who can help you succeed.

"To have them guide you along the way can open up a lot of doors" said Marissa Boccher.
