Sweet Briar rider for Team USA places in top spots in Germany

UPDATE - Sweet Briar College sophomore Makayla Benjamin won the show jumping competition and placed third overall in the world equestrian finals in Germany. The United States won fifth place overall.

AMHERST CO. (WSLS10) -A member of the equestrian team at Sweet Briar College has made it to the second round of the World finals in Germany.

Sophomore Makayla Benjamin was selected to represent team USA in the World Finals equestrian competition.

Benjamin is going head-to-head with riders from 14 other countries.

Mimi Wroten, head of the riding program at Sweet Briar says Makayla has scored high enough in both the jumping and the dressage competitions to make it to the second round of each.

They'll find out Wednesday night if she makes it to the third and final round on Thursday.

This is the first time a rider at Sweet Briar College has been selected to compete in the World Finals
